El Houb, by director shariff Nasr is the very first movie to open up about coming-out in the Moroccan-Dutch community.
When his father accidentally finds him in bed with another man, Karim rushes to his parental home to try and open the conversation about his sexuality. But how do you discuss the elephant in the room within a family that by definition avoids any sensitive topic? Especially with a meddling neighbor who is always buzzing around the house at the wrong time.
The difficult days that follow bring back beautiful and poignant memories. Karim realizes he must confront his family to finally break the deafening silence. But how can he expect acceptance from his family, when he has never come to terms with his own feelings? El Houb (translated: The love) is the moving and witty directorial debut of Shariff Nasr, starring Fahd Larhzaoui and award-winning actors Lubna Azabal (Incendies, Adam) and Slimane Dazi (Un prophète).
