Internationally renowned artist on the connections between Ghana and the Netherlands
De Ghanese kunstenaar Rita Mawuena Benissan sluit op dinsdag 20 mei haar periode als Artist in Residence van Wereldlab en het Besiendershuis af. Afgelopen periode heeft ze onderzocht hoe erfgoed en cultuur wereldwijd met elkaar verbonden zijn en wat die verbinding betekent, hier in Nijmegen en in Ghana. Dat leidde onder andere tot interessante ontdekkingen over de paraplugeschiedenis van Nijmegen.
Op basis van dit onderzoek gaat ze komende periode een nieuw kunstwerk ontwikkelen. Tijdens deze gevarieerde sessie deelt ze haar inzichten tot dusver. Maar er is ook Ghanese muziek en dans en ze gaat het gesprek aan met het publiek.

Ghanaian artist Rita Mawuena Benissan concludes her period as Artist in Residence of Wereldlab and the Besiendershuis on Tuesday 20 May. During her residency she investigated how heritage and culture are connected worldwide and what that connection means, here in Nijmegen and Ghana. Among other things, this led to interesting discoveries about Nijmegen’s umbrella history.
Based on this research, she will develop a new piece of art. During this varied session, she will share her insights so far. But there will also be Ghanaian music and dance and she will engage with the audience during a Q&A.
