Why do you wear what you wear? What do your clothes say about you? And how do you identify yourself with them? Join us on October 11th for a night full of insights with Theodorus Johannes, a clothing swap and an afterparty in The Plak!
Friday October 11th we are celebrating worldwide Coming Out Day. This night, we are welcoming Theodorus Johannes to the stage to tell us more about the history of clothing in the queer community and ways to express yourself through clothing. Theodorus Johannes is a community organizer within the Queer Needlework Circle, an independent group of LGBTQIA+ textile-needleworkers who gather in occasional crafting circles.
Afterwards, there will be a panel discussion with Sophie Roumans, Patrick Hiemstra and Pieter Havelaar, makers in and around Nijmegen who are active in this scene. We will end the program with a clothing swap! We want you to bring 2 pieces of clothing with you that you can add to the clothing swap. The clothing pieces that will remain at the end of the event will be donated to charity!
There will be an afterparty organized in the Plak! Will we see you there?
This program is put together with the help of Azoth Events, a community-based event, that provides safe spaces for members of the queer community from in and around Nijmegen.

In Theodorus Johannes’ work as an artist, fashion and textiles are the center point. They create clothing for themself and share their knowledge with others, enabling them to make their own clothes. Additionally, they explore the meaning of fashion and fashion heritage, producing films, photos, and reports on these topics. Moreover, they are skilled in both hand and machine embroidery, working on clothing as well as flat textile pieces. Theodorus also works as a community organiser in the Queer Needlework Circle.
