In the near future, AI has taken over and human emotions are considered a threat. These emotions are dangerous because it affects humans in their ability to make righteous and fair decisions. Gabrielle decides to remove her emotions by purifying her DNA which is achieved through the use of a machine that immerses Gabrielle in her past lives. In these past lives, Gabrielle meets Louise with whom she feels a strong connection which she can’t place. At the same time, she experiences an anxious feeling, alarming her for possible disaster.

The Beast is a romantic sci-fi thriller which explores the influence of AI and the uniqueness of humankind. Set in three different time periods, director Bertrand Bonello examines in a Lynchian way the power of emotions and the possible erasure of humankind in society. The film is loosely based on the novel ‘The Beast in the Jungle’ Henry James and premiered at the Venetia Filmfestival where it was applauded for its overwhelming and cinematic experience, as well the chemistry between Léa Seydoux and George MacKay.
