A poetic, alienating, and at times oppressive winter folk drama
A poetic, unsettling, and sometimes oppressive winter folk drama, in which longing, fear, and superstition merge with the overwhelming power of nature. During a bleak winter night in 1899, Aimée, a young, progressive teacher, arrives in a remote mountain village in the snowy French Alps.
Aimée arrives in the village, but in this community isolated by snow and tradition, faith and legends prove to be at least as strong as letters and numbers. Undeterred by this reception, she intends to break through the illiteracy and stubborn superstition in the village. With every snowfall, Aimée’s commitment grows, and simultaneously, an intense, sensual restlessness grows within her. When an avalanche sweeps away a young villager, reality tilts and the fragile balance is disrupted.
