About Downtown

New feature film by Michiel van Erp (Een schitterend gebrek, Niemand in de stad) about a queer friend group in the 80s and their lives during the covid-pandemic. With Yorick van Wageningen (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Thor Braun (Oogappels).

Amsterdam, 19786. In the extravagant nightclub Downtown Ronnie, Lennart and Bas seem invincible. Their close friendship exists in nights of freedom, desire and excess, against the backdrop of a city in flux. But when the first rumours of AIDS start going around, their world begins to change. While Ronnie carefully takes a step back, Lennart and Bas hold onto what feels like an endless life– until Bas disappears without a trace. More than thirty years later, during the covid-pandemic, Ronnie meets Bas unexpectedly. He decides to organise a dinner party that Lennart also joins; their first meeting in years.
