About Coward
New war drama by Lukas Dhont, the Belgian director and screenwriter who gained fame with Girl and Close. The film received a standing ovation of thirteen minutes at Cannes, as well as the Prix du Cinéma Positif, which is awarded to the best film engaging with topical societal and climate-related issues. The main actors, Valentin Campagne (La venue de l’avenir) and newcomer Emmanuel Macchia jointly received Cannes’ prize for best actor.
1917. Pierre arrives at the Belgian front, ambitious and anxious to prove himself in battle. Behind the battle lines he meets Francis, who tries to improve morale among the troops with improvised theatre shows. While the war rages on relentlessly, they both try to escape reality, even if only for a while.
